Massage Therapies

Our massage therapists are all highly skilled in a number of massage disciplines, from which they choose the most appropriate to treat your condition and give you the most effective treatment.  The following is an overview of some of these.

Remedial Deep Tissue Massage

Remedial deep tissue massage is ideal for treating chronic or acute tension in the soft tissues, and helping recovery from injuries.  Regular deep tissue massage can act as a preventative treatment dealing with the health of muscle and connective tissue, range of movement, tone, symmetry, balance of muscle and quality of posture.  It can work well alongside Osteopathy or other forms of manual medicine.

If you have an active lifestyle, or if you are suffering from chronic muscle tension,  you are likely to find that this type of massage can help to improve your overall wellbeing and the ability for the body to cope with daily life.

Myofascial Release

‘Myo’ means muscle and ‘fascia’ means band. Fascia surrounds, infuses and protects every other tissue, tendon, muscle, bone, ligament and organ of the body. In healthy conditions the fascial system is relaxed and wavy in configuration. This provides a cushioning and supportive mechanism allowing us to move safely without restriction or pain. Fascia is also dynamic in nature, it responds to internal and external forces applied on it meeting the resistance in order to protect.  Using various techniques, massage therapists can work to improve the function of muscle and fascia and thus reduce tension and pain.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a non-invasive complementary health therapy, based on the theory that different points on the feet, lower leg, hands, face or ears correspond with different areas of the body. Reflexologists work holistically with their clients and aim to work alongside allopathic healthcare to promote better health for their clients and advanced practitioners are trained to tailor their treatment to support particular  medical conditions.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is the practice of using the natural oils extracted from flowers, bark, stems, leaves, roots or other parts of a plant to enhance psychological and physical well-being. The inhaled aroma from these “essential” oils is widely believed to stimulate brain function. Essential oils can also be absorbed through the skin, where they travel through the bloodstream and can promote whole-body healing.
A form of alternative medicine, aromatherapy is gaining momentum. It is used for a variety of applications, including pain relief, mood enhancement and increased cognitive function. There are a wide number of essential oils available, each with its own healing properties.
